2018 NFL Draft Profile: Mike McGlinchey

Mike McGlinchey, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame

6’8, 312 Lbs, Senior, 425 Lb Bench Press

Not many people can say they are larger than the average NFL offensive lineman, but Notre Dame’s Mike McGlinchey can. Standing at a staggering 6’8, McGlinchey is built to block a grizzly bear from laying a claw on your quarterback, and probably could. Coming out of the 2013 high school class, McGlinchey was labeled a 4 star recruit and the 11th best tackle in the nation according to 247Sports.com. He had 18 D1 offers waiting for him, including the likes of Florida State, Michigan, and of course Notre Dame. I don’t need to say much about Notre Dame’s offensive linemen talent, you just have to list off the names. With future 1st rounder Ronnie Stanley already making his name at left tackle, McGlinchey flipped to the right side of the line where he started all 13 games as a sophomore. Once Stanley left for Baltimore, he switched back to left tackle where he performed at an All-American level.

Without a doubt the best pass blocker in this draft, McGlinchey shows quick feet for someone standing 6’8. His step back movements are very clean and does a nice job setting the left side of the pocket. Though showing the ability to block future NFL edge rushers, you can see that he struggles to lock down speed rushers off the edge. McGlinchey does struggle to stay on blocks at times, and does normally end up stumbling a lot during running plays. He shows great versatility on the offensive line starting 13 games at right tackle and looking to start in 25 straight games at left tackle. This will be McGlinchey’s second season as a team captain, giving him one more than Ronnie Stanley had in his career as a Golden Domer. In his 5th year at Notre Dame, this is Mike McGlinchey’s last chance to show his full skill set as a left tackle.

Possible Landing Spots: Top 20

Cincinnati Bengals - Andrew Whitworth is finally gone, and that leaves a big hole for the Bengals to fill. Cedric Ogbuehi looks promising but struggled extremely at right tackle for the Jungle last season. McGlinchey could give Dalton the edge he needs to show off his full range of talent.

Jacksonville Jaguars - The Jags have tons and tons of talent everywhere but their offensive line. Whether or not Bortles is the answer, McGlinchey provides a giant body for Fournette to run behind for years to come.

Buffalo Bills - The Bills have two 1st round draft picks this upcoming draft, and could completely flip their offense with a QB/LT duo. McGlinchey is the perfect starting piece for a bare franchise like the Bills, and provides a big stepping stone to greatness.
