Sam Hubbard, Defensive End, Ohio State

6’5, 265 Lbs, RS Junior 40 Yard 4.56

Sam Hubbard came into Ohio State a multi sport athlete who was new to the position as an edge rusher. In high school he played safety but was rated as a 5 star athlete and the 7th best player in the state of Ohio according to 247Sports.com. Ohio State officially moved him to linebacker once they announced their 2014 recruiting class. After his redshirt year, Hubbard began terrorizing Big Ten offenses as soon as he stepped onto the field. His freshman year he had 28 tackles, 8 for a loss, 6.5 sacks and even 1 interception to boot, while playing behind Joey Bosa. Once Bosa left, Hubbard took over the starting defensive end position and had 46 total tackles, 8.5 for a loss, and 3.5 sacks. His numbers aren’t exactly eye popping, but watching his tape you continuously see him break plays apart even if he isn’t getting the tackle.

Scouting Hubbard is a pretty easy task, as he not only makes himself easy to find by ending the play but also with his freakish athleticism at the beginning of plays. Hubbard shows a vast arsenal of pass rush moves, some better than others. He doesn't stay blocked for very long, and has a powerful first punch with his bull rush. At 6’5, he has a tremendous frame to grow into and has the athletic ability to into most NFL schemes. With more polish added to his pass rushing ability, he could very well do similar damage that Joey Bosa just did his rookie year.

Possible Landing Spots: Pick 20th-25th

Green Bay Packers - The Packers defensive line needs a lot of help, but need major help on their line. Sam Hubbard is the perfect replacement for Julius Peppers, and can learn from Clay Matthews, as his game does need polish.

Carolina Panthers - The Panthers defense was once feared, but without Kony ealy, now looks very lackluster with an aging Charles Johnson as their best pass rusher. With most of the holes plugged on offense, it's time to spend some time back on defense.

Pittsburgh Steelers - Pittsburgh would love to have a talent like Hubbard fall to them to pair up with TJ Watt on their defensive front. James Harrison is a monster, and shows no signs of slowing down, but Hubbard could learn from the best until called upon.
